I have vague memories of somehow knowing Masons were anti catholic, back around the time I was getting less and less catholic myself. I think I learned that in high school religion class, back when I was still very fervent.
Some time later I had a new friend, a woman (big new word, as we used to call ourselves girls then) in my first bacteriology class at a university. We used to pal around. She had another friend who was a member of Job's Daughters, which is, I take it, a masonic youth organization. Friend number one told me she/they hated catholics.
Well, Friend #1 got the next friend to be civil. What I remember of being with both of them at the same time was going shopping in Westwood between classes.
Nuthin' about religions or daughters.
Decades later, two newer aspects - my very staunch catholic cousin is a Mason, and his wife, the actual cousin, also staunch re catholicism, is equally enthused and telling me happily about the history of masons. I usually don't capitalize words others do, from a combination of laziness and 'why capitalize it?'. Thus my not capitalizing catholic, even though I'm s'posed to.
The second aspect is that I've gotten to know a number of very good masons through my work in architecture, the ones I'm talking about both capable and artistic to boot, sort of in a meshed combo of ability.
I've no idea if my mason acquaintances are Mason affiliates. We never got around to that conversation.
Of the two women I shopped with between classes.. I went to the first one's wedding, and never saw the second one after those shopping days.
I don't bother myself about illuminati.
