Is there a term for the study of (generally) talents/abilities and interests?
For example, why some people have artistic talents but lack at everything else, or why this person is more talented in say, singing, while this other person can hardly sing; and also, why some people are interested in a certain thing, and some people aren't interested at all. I don't know if there is a term for it. I'm sure it has something to do with applied psychology and/or human behaviour (which is part of psychology, right?). And if there isn't a term for it, what do I call it then? Applied Psychology and Human Behaviour in the study of talents/abilities and interests?
For everybody's information, I'm doing a research of an idea which has developed since about 4 years ago, and I have just started researching for less than a year now and until now, I have not been able to find a correct term for it.
Thank you in advance.
From my classes in education theory (several years now)...
Take a look at writing about the "Affective Domain" (part of Blooms taxonomy). This is the part of learning where you learn to understand the value of what your are learning. Enjoyment (i.e. interests) certainly is a part of the affective domain. A google search on this may put you in the right direction.
Terms "talents/abilities" are much to broad to be of any use. You will have to be more specific to get any research that is useful.
You may try looking at Howard Gardner't theory of "Multiple Intelligences" which is very popular in education right now.
If you want to go back further, try reading about Piaget, who talked about the development of basic mental abilities (he called them formal operations).
This is off the top of my head, but I hope it helps.
Whoa okey... thanks for that many resouces!
