@panzade,
Well, I just ate poutine. A new food trailer opened up a few blocks from my house, and I finally got around to stopping there. Owned by Candians that just moved here earlier this year. Really nice guy, very polite Wink

Tastes like potato, gravy and cheese. Neutral

Good thing the trailer is in the parking lot of a bar. I'm sure a lot of drunk/tipsy people will buy it.

A remarkably accurate observation.

@chai2,
Last week, I took a day off from work because I had an early morning doctor's appointment. Not knowing what to do with the rest of my day, I decided to get some poutine for lunch at Mile's End Deli in Brooklyn.

I Googled the directions and went there post haste only to find out they were closed(!) for their yearly end-of-August vacation. Nevertheless, I did not partake in any Poutine. Maybe I'll try again next month.

The difference between their Poutine and the usual is that this deli adds their highly acclaimed pastrami to the dish.

Nonetheless, thanks for making the sacrifice and letting us know what this distinctively Canadian dish tastes like. I'm proud of your open minded bravery Chai! Wink

BTW: Is it blasphemy to add ketchup to this French fry dish?

Absolutely not and what's more, hot sauce gives it some pizazz .

I'm not sure what I was expecting stepan, as sometimes when you combine particular foods you come up with something that tastes not like any of the separate components.

I had this experience with raspberry & chipotle.
I couldn't for the life of me reconcile in my mind what this combination would taste like. Then, unfortunately, I bought some philly cream cheese that was raspberry chipotle flavored. When I put it in my mouth I couldn't see what the big deal was, even worse, it tasted like 2 things that shouldn't be together. Then, fortunately, someone I know, Rosalinda, made her own dip with those ingredients, and I tasted it, just to be, you know, polite. WOW! Then I saw what the attraction was. I thought it was the best thing being served at that pot luck. It was a distinct thing that can't be described by saying there's raspberry in there, and chipotle.

Poutine though tastes just like those 3 ingredients, not like it merges in something different.

@chai2,
I'm your basic carb hog somewhat reformed. I've never been interested in trying poutine. Bad me.

I get potatoes and gravy.

Cheese with gravy?
