The Internet Knows You...

This is scarry. Have you ever tried typing your screen name in Google or some other search engine? Some times you get a lot of results back that are actually messages that you posted on various forums years ago.

I used to use my real name on other forums and when I discovered this is I stopped using it. Just by typing my name I was able to bring up my genealogy forum along with all of my family members and various other things like Book marks that I saved on BookMarks.com

So how many results does typing your real name or screen name return and how much of it is actually you?

Apparently there's a cop back east who is really into legalising Marijuana who has the same real name as me Cool

I get 47 pages for my real name
and 2526667 pages for my A2K name.

It doesn't work for those of us with really common names. I wonder how many John Smith gets.

My user name here is apparently the name of some supermodel, so I don't know how far down the pack any of my posts come in.

As for my real name...hardly any pages at all. In fact, just for my alma mater. There is an alumni page and an alumni updates page. My name is on those. Smile

Since I've got the same name (with the same spelling) as a former long term All Black player, I think you'd have to search pretty hard to find anything about me under my real name.

I once looked up my real name and got a whole bunch of links for some gay porn star. It's not me, I swear!

I always liked funny names, like the way that america is run by a dick, his bush, and a colon (well, almost).

I've had my dry spells, I must admit. Looooong ones. I think I went over two years one time. Thank god those days are gone. But really, after a while, it wasn't so bad. You get used to it.
