Mine was an old favourite: Nick Cave's The Boatman's Call.
It went with my ex-partner when we divided up the assets.
Really missed it.
My rating?: 10/10
Two LP replacements.
Derek and the Dominoes. 8/10 Still sounds a bit unpolished in places, but Eric and Duane... what else do you need.
Professor Longhair - Crawfish Fiesta. 10/10. Just in time for Mardi Gras!
Previously... a couple of Christmas albums that I heard reviewed. Can't rate 'em... haven't listened to 'em
Puffy Amiyumi - Nice. 8/10 I think these young ladies were probably concieved at the infamous Cheap Trick Live At Budokan recording... fifty minutes of stolen riffs and pure power pop. Sort of like a diet cola. A bit too sweet, no real susbstance, but just enough kick to get ya fired up.
Dave Holland Big Band - What Goes Around. 10/10 Most excellent jazz.
Opeth-Damnation 10/10......This will lead me to buy all of their CDs and that is for sure!
The Shins (band)--Shoots Too Narrow --Love it
Donovan --Storyteller---Takes me back to a time...
Ensemble Polaris - Midnight Sun
Quote:Traditional tunes from Scandinavia, the Baltic and Scotland with a Canadian twist. <snip> "Ancient songs with extraordinary words, laments and dances are all reworked here for modern ears. The arrangements are absolutely spot on - inventive yet never flashy, the result stimulating yet meditative...a tantalising, beautiful collection..." Classic CD
fabulous. at least 9.5 out of 10. somedays it feels more like 12 out of 10.
Beth... reads great. (Nearly said sounds great, but I can't hear it from here.) What're the instruments?
Alison Melville on flute/recorder with Colin Savage, clarinet/recorder; Margaret Gay, cello/button accordion; Catherine Keenan, hurdy-gurdy; Kirk Elliot, harp/guitar/mandolin/dulcimer/pipes; Terry McKenna, lute/guitar/bouzouki; Ben Grossman, percussion/santur/jew's harp; and guest vocalists Sarah Granskou and Tiina Orpana.
Quote:
Ensemble Polaris was founded in the spring of 1997 and first performed for Toronto's Northern Encounters Festival later that year. Made up of seven gifted instrumentalists from the Toronto early, folk, new, improvisational and 'independent' music communities, the group reflects an uncommon diversity of musical backgrounds and sensibilities, all of which contributeto their work together.
Although some Scottish and Latvian ancestry can indeed be traced in the group, Polaris's exploration of circumpolar traditional tunes stems mainly from their affinity and respect for the music and for each other, and from a desire to enjoy themselves with musical creativity.

Her new c.d., Archipelago, is also quite wonderful. You can listen to parts of it from a link at her site.
A replacement cd. Enigma, MCMXC a.d..
Since I bought it twice, I would rate it as excellent.
I just bought,
Blackie and the Rodeo Kings - Bark *********/ solid album, from three diverse canadian talents.
Harry Manx - Live and Jubilee - both are incredibly good. Harry is an musicians musician. Any of his albums are worth picking up.
and Martin Sexton's In the Journey and Blacksheep cause the first two were so over played.
I highly recommend any of them.
Keith Urban self titled CD 10/10.
ooooooh, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings! fantabulous!
Warren Zevon's Sentimental Hygeine (oh man, I can't drive to school without at least listening to "Bad Karma"),
Earth, Wind & Fire's Greatest Hits (now I have "September" and "Let's Groove" in my head),
Steely Dan's The Royal Scam (okay, could be better, but I adore "The Fez"),
Warren Zevon's The Wind (okay, not as into it as S.H.), and
FM Soundtrack (pretty good but a very annoying intro of her band by Linda Ronstadt).
I think that's it. Hubby also bought some new music - Daltrey's Ride a Rock Horse (he plays it a lot), Saga's Worlds Apart (I've never heard him playing it; maybe he's just wearin' headphones?), Billy Joel's 52nd Street (always welcome), plus I believe there were 2 others but the names escape me and there's an enormous pile of CDs in here (:-D) so helfino which ones.
This was the first big purchase of new music for us in quite a while. I'd say, overall, I'm about 75 - 90% satisfied with my purchases; can't speak for Mr. J of course.
Missy Elliot - Under Construction. 9/10. I just love her attitude. Some songs are better than others, but the good ones are really good.
For Christmas I picked up several for the family, none for me.
Black Eyed Peas - Elephunk
Harry Connick - Harry for the holidays
Lyle Lovett - My Baby Don't Tolerate
No Doubt - The Singles
Radio Disney - Kid Jams
Of these the BEP and the Lyle CD were the best, both 9/10.
the last I bought was "Back in Black" -- AC/DC. turn it up & listen thru a set of cans.
Also "Permissio to Land" --- The Darkness. Great spoof on glam rock.
AFI- Sing the Sorrow; 9.5/10 (2 bad songs)
Red Hot Chili Peppers- Greatest Hits; 10/10 (all good)
"Memorex - High Speed." As near as I can tell, it's a John Cage rip-off.
