1. A photograph mesures 20 cm by 16 cm. A strip of constant width is to be cut off the top and one side of the photo, so that the area is reduced to 60% of the area of the original photo. What are the dimensions of the cropped phottograph?
PLEASE ANSWER and show step by step.

2. Find 3 consecutive positive odd integers such that the sum of the squares of the first two is 15 less than the square of the third. I know the answer is 1,3,5 but i want to know what formula to use to get this anwser if introduced to one of these questions. (step by step)

3. Fred is playing catch with Dino but they stand on either side of a 5 m tall fence, 30 m apart. If the fence is 19m from fred and the ball reaches a maximum height of 5 m, will the ball reach dino? The path of a ball can be modeled by a quadratic relation(step by step).

4. Wilma threw fred a bowling ball from the top of their house. The trajectory of the bowling ball can be modeled by the equation h= -2d^2+4d+6, where h is the height of the ball in meters above the ground and d is the horizontal distance travelled , in meters.

a)what is the height, when wilma first launches it off the top of their house.
b)how long is the ball in the air(STEPBYSTEP)
c)when does the ball reach its maximum height
f)state domain and range.

@hodan1,
1) let the cropped picture be equal to 60% of the area. The cropped picture area is the height and width of the picture less the length of the crop.
Call the length of the crop an unknown (x). Put that into an equation and find the quadratic and solve for the unknown (x).

2) there are two possible solutions (1,3, 5) and (3, 5, 7). Set the conditions up and solve the quadratic and it just pops.
