I guess that means that hurricanes are also beneficial - any storm, actually. The real silver lining.
What about tornadoes? Is there an upside to them as well?
Wihtout even reading the article, while many storms are devastating, there certainly are positive influences from them, however we usually focus on the negative impacts they have on humanity.
All things natural have at least some positive outcome for nature, us included. Our world was developed by these natural catastrophes without which we wouldn't be here.

The Malthusian theory, if I am not mistaken, was that wars, pestilance and famine were necessary and I suppose good. I don't believe that either.
well, maybe not to us, but to the whole bio-physical well being of the earth - their all good, in their way, too.
Storms, earthquakes and tornados demolish lots of mechanically unsafe structures, making way for newer and hopefully better. If one of your loved ones is crushed by the collapse you will definitely be of the "not beneficial opinion" Neil
