I guess I would ask the pit boss why not. And accept whatever he said. House rules are house rules.

If I had that much extra cash to throw away, I'd not only be at the wrong table, but the wrong business.

I can think of many other things to do with an extra $500.

Okay...apparently what happened was that the person simply took the pit boss at his/her word and play continued.

Anyone questioning a pit boss in a ruling like that is asking to be invited to leave.

The person who made the bet said nothing. It was the other players who spoke up and questioned the dealer and pit boss. As I stood there watching, I was thinking I don't know any casino that has a rule against splitting 2 hands at the max. bet. As far as I knew, the max. bet is per hand, not per person.

What happened was the pit boss consulted with his supervisor (?) and the person was allowed to play the max. bet and split the hand. I don't know if the person won or lost because I left after the decision was made.
