After watching this, I linked to GMA where they were appearing.
The guy did say that they were both really tired, he'd just finished a bunch of exams...She was tired too....

To be honest, I can relate to the young woman in a way. Many times with math problems I come up with the correct answer, and quickly in my head, but not in a way that would make sense to others. Well, it'd make sense, they would just think it was not as straight forward as it could have been.

George and Gracie, good comparison. Gracie was no dope, just different.

her solutions never wandered near a correct answer.

nuh uh!

She said that going 80 miles @ 80 mph would take about 58 minutes! That was her very first answer.

if I remember correctly, she recanted that and decided to cut 80 in half to 40.

Well, yeah!

Her husband was leading her to believe she wasn't on the right track, so she approached it with different parameters and paradigms and stuff.
