Scientists develop ultimate remote control

Sydney scientists says they are confident of rapidly commercialising a technology which enables people's brain signals to control mechanical devices.

The project at the University of Technology Sydney has attracted $250,000 from an unusual source - the Panthers entertainment group.

The initial reason for research into 'mind switch' technology ultimately aims to help profoundly disabled people switch on electrical items by electrodes transmitting their alpha brain waves through a computer.

Whilst that has been successfully trialled, behavioural sciences Professor Ashley Craig says the first application may be for fun.

"Children especially love the idea, a user-friendly very reliable mind switch toy, something like a robot or a car that you would run around with you brain rather than your hands, using a remote control," he said.

The Panthers entertainment group, which incorporates the NRL club, says the mind switch is its first commercial science investment and has both general community and sporting applications.

Theo, This could be a wonderful boon for two of my friends in their 60s who have lost all voluntary muscle control.
It'd be worth chancing I think. (re your tag line)
