Fluorescent Lighting Question

Some ballasts are sold as "Instant Start", which is fairly obvious, and some (this one I have hear) are sold as "Trigger start". Am I right in guessing that when using the Trigger Start ballast, I'll need to use starter(s)?

Thanks!

Nope. A Trigger start ballast doesn't need a starter cartridge. You use a starter in a "pre-heat" ballast.

My guess is the technology is about the same for both copywrighted names. How does the ballast generate a voltage pulse to ionize the gas in the florescent tube without preheat?
The spiral florescent tubes use about a dozen electronic components to convert the 60 hertz to thousands of hertz, but no inductor, I think. Neil
