Visage?

I like it. Yet, it never hurts to have a business name at or near the top of the alphabet, and no, I don't suggest Aardvark Photography.

There are a lot of great ideas and advice here - thanks!

"Look!" IS a cool idea. It implies something visual, and, for those of us that remember the magazine of that name, it implies something beautiful or noteworthy.

Plus, it would be very easy to work into advertising.

Our local phone book doesn't list any business by that name (there are three "Visage's", eyewear companies, interestingly enough).

And, no, I have no web site (yet!) but I doubt I'd post a lot of boudoir on there - most people want to keep that very private.

Just in case anyone is still reading...

I met with the guy I'm bringing in as my partner the other day. We've been kind of head butting over this naming thing.

Today I was at the park and Mo was running around playing with all the other kids so I let my mind wander and it wandered to this stray memory....

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that ’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellow’d to that tender light
Which Heaven to gaudy day denies.

So I came home and looked up the exact definition of "aspect":

A particular look or facial expression; mien: “He was serious of aspect but wholly undistinguished” (Louis Auchincloss).
Appearance to the eye, especially from a specific vantage point.
A way in which something can be viewed by the mind: looked at all aspects of the situation.

So what do you think of Aspect, or (something) Aspect, or Aspect (something).

When you hear the word what does it bring to your mind?

It's interesting! Might have copyright/ website type problems, though -- lots of hits for "aspect photography" on Google, including this one:

http://www.aspectphotography.net/

I like (something) Aspect best, both in terms of how it sounds and chances for being unique.

Hi soz. Thanks.

My google search came back with a lot of stuff about aspect ratios in photography and different aspects of photography. I did get "arieal aspect photography" but really more technical stuff.

Does google somehow know the kind of thing you might be asking?

Scary!

Its not a very pretty word, sound-wise but maybe (something) could pimp it up a bit.

I used quotes -- "aspect photography", which means it finds those words next to each other rather than just in the same document or paragraph or whatever.

I'll keep thinking about the "something."

How about "Like the Night"? :-)

Hmmm.

Sounds like a vampire kind of joint.

Of course, I will happily photograph vampires as long as they have a Visa or Mastercard.

"All that's best of dark and bright" would be cool but might be seen as a tad boastful...

That would make it difficult to answer the phones with the studio's name.

But it is cool.

I'm not that big on poetry but those lines have stuck with me for whatever reason and I think they are really quite beautiful. I really don't know what brought it to mind today - that is where my good ideas usually come from.

Hmmm. I wonder if I could use that poem in advertising.....

Aspect also brings to mind a kind of all encompasing thing - which is nice for a portrait business that wants to do everything from kids to boudoir to families to senior portraits blah blah blah.

Really, it is a powerful word for many reasons but I wonder if it is only powerful to me.

Which is, of course, why I ask.

And you make brainstorming a wonderful passtime, soz.

Thank you!

Vampire kind of joint, eh? :-D

I love this stuff.

I definitely like Aspect, think it has a lot of potential. How worried are you about copyright stuff, the Aspect Photography website et al?

I really think something has to go in front of it sound-wise too though, maybe it's just my Midwestern accent but the "ass" is way too prominent. Takes me back to the boudoir part, but a bit more tawdry than I think you have in mind.

www.aspect.com is registered -- not available -- but not currently a live website. (If I look it up on Whois it says it's registered, but if you just plug in www.aspect.com you don't get anything.)

I was wondering if you could use that poem too, surely it's public domain by now...?

Will keep thinking about the something in (something) Aspect...

Mr. B knows a bit about registering names and how to check that out. I'm sending Partner some info about my thoughts to get his ideas.

I certainly don't want to infringe on anyone's copyrights and I know it can be tricky. I'm thinking by combinding it with other word(s) that I might be able to avoid copyright issues.

I'm from Texas originally so I hit kind of hard on the "ass" part too - (something) Aspect might soften that a bit though.
