Cool site, piffka. That's got some new info for me. I'm a red rabbit and a brown monkey and my lucky element is fire.

Fire is my lucky element, evidently.

littlek, my birthday was in December. My Admittedly Arbitrary and Paranoid Policy dictates that I don't state my exact birthday online. The AAPP does allow me to say I'm now 33, though. Very Happy

The Chinese Lunar New Year's fest here in Toronto runs about 10 days. I've been hearing radio reports of the fun for the last couple of days. I wish I could be downtown right now to see all the lion dancer troupes.

It's also a great family time. We gather the extended family for a big dinner at a restaurant in Chinatown before the New Year to close out the old year. Then after New Year we have another big dinner to open up the New Year.

Elders distribute little red envelopes with money on them to the younger generation.

The house is cleaned and tidied before New Year. You mustn't clean on New Year! Also, red is often worn for good luck.

The CBC has been doing features on Chinese New Year all week. Today I heard that you shouldn't wash or cut your hair on New Year's Day.

IN mainland on the last eve of the year(like now), most people basically do nothing except watching the Chinese Festival Show made by CCTV annually since 1980.

That is a bizarre Chinese-style phenomena.
