How did you meet your significant other?

I met my wife once in passing, about three years before we became acquainted. I said hello to her, moving through my sister in law's living room. Wanting no part of her or her friends, I did not slow down to be polite. About three years later, I was looking for a divorce and the sister in law introduced me to the woman I was next to wed. We visited and let the kids play together (she had one, I had two). Eventually I got my divorce and we were soon married. I only remembered that first meeting at the time we got engaged. Turns out she recalled my 'rudeness' very well.

@MMarciano,
We were blind dates. My room mate was dating this jerk she really didn't care for, so got me a date with his friend. We were all single living in Cleveland OH. We played tennis at the University Club, where Jenny and I gigled behind their backs, squares both of them. Afterwards, we went up to her guy's apartment. Couldn't believe it, and we howled with laughter. The dining room table had been set sometime in the past, real china with dried up spaghetti, dark orange butter, long-crusted rolls. Couldn't stop laughing, even got hysterical.

So, more dates with this guy, who played in a Dixieland band, an orchestra, sang in 2 quartets, a 7-member singing group. Parties, parties, but I liked seeing him playing that trumpet, another thing or two. Soooo, married we got, had 2 kids, moved to New England, Michigan, now Texas. That's how we met.

@ossobuco,
I surprised him on our first anniversary with matching rings. I told him I had to work late but I had to make a stop before coming home. They each have five diamonds since OUR child is five years old. Smile

@MMarciano,
Kinda of odd - I am just leaving in a bit to pick up my engagement ring (new) - we not too long ago had some of our jewerly stolen including engagement and wedding rings. Finally settled with the insurance co - which of course never seems to cover everything.

But today I will at least be engaged again - looking at new wedding rings as well.

I had left my relationship of 20 years and was happily working in camps and hanging out in Vancouver with my friends. I came out of a long camp, called a geology friend of mine (and my ex) and she was in Calgary at a conference. She said, 'Come on down and stay with me." So I hopped a plane and arrived that afternoon. Alex was convening the conference, so she introduced us. That was 3.5 yrs ago.

We had a long-distance relationship for 6 months seeing each other briefly in May, July, September, October, then I moved in with him (partially) at the beginning of November, not planning anything, just going to hang out with him... he asked me to marry him later that month (!) but that was too soon for me to know but then he asked me again the following spring, and I said Yes, but let's wait a year - I just wanted to be sure... and voila we married on 10/10/10, nearly two years after I moved in.

We just got along so well, and he's so easy to be with, it's like being with myself. We've had a couple arguments but never had a fight and we have renovated his house from top to bottom, inside and out, including all new furniture. Just finished the outside this year, and if anything's going to stress you, it's renovating, so I think we're good. I just couldn't imagine not living with him.
