Where can one find clear images of fossils of whales, dinosaurs etc showing the extent of the actual fossil found and the areas of the skeletons which are reconstructions.

If you go to a museums collections of reconstructed sections of fossils, they usually use an epoxy or plastic (or even aluminum) and the color differences from the natural v the reconstructed segments are easily distinguished.

Smaller fossils, like trilobotes or bryozoans or small fish , are often "cast" ina resin plastic and then painted so they look like the original. Usually these are sold for study purposes and /or are sold in fossil shops and specimen dealers.
