Okay. It's late and Bear has been pounding out in the garage with his band so Cub and I can't think straight. We've done the first 24 problems and I am having a lot of fun, but...
Cub has this one last pre-algebra problem that I can't even figure out where to start. I just need to show him how to work the problem... I'm not doing it FOR him. (Plus I won't sleep til I know the answer)
x-2 = x+4
---- -----
5 7
In case my lines don't match up when I post, that is x-2 over 5 = x-4 over 7.
Thanks so much. I know I'll be kickin myself when I see it!
Ok.
So this is how I remember it.
Multiply both sides by 7 and then multiply both sides by 5 and then remove the extra 7's and 5's
x - 2 = x - 4
______ ______
5 ................... 7
5 x 7 x (x - 2) = 5 x 7 x (x - 4)
____________ ___________
5 .................................... 7
7 ( x - 2) = 5 (x - 4)
7x - 14 = 5x - 20
7x - 5x - 14 = -20
2x - 14 = -20
2x = -20 + 14
2x = -6
x = -6
_____
......... 2
x = - 3
I've thrown in a couple of extra steps, but I think it helps show the process.
(at least that's how I remember this working)
grrrrrrrr - that lining up thing is tricky. i hope you can see what i was doing there.
She posts once in a blue moon, and what does she do? Blame me for her problems.
I'm tired of this abuse, tired I tell you.
It's Squinney!
Dangit BPB, think of the kids!
6 blinkin' edits to get that nearly lined up. grrrrrrrrr
So, bottom line, squinney - it's really all about isolating the x.
Thanks, l'k. Like ya said - it's for the kids, dangitall!
Wow! Thank you, ehBeth!
I was trying to get a 35 in there somehow as the common denominator and then I tried cross multiplying and.... Well, I certainly never would have remembered the right way to do it.
I had actually forgotten how much I loved Algebra. I know that sounds crazy, but it's the logic that intrigues me, not the numbers.
Hey, littleK! Hope you are doing well. Are you still doing the nanny thing?
I am nannying still, yep. But, I've gotten down to one family.
Cool! I'm sure that has simplified things for you. Now you also know to check with ehBeth when they start bringing home the more advanced math... And, to keep the children away from Bears!
Hey!!! I love children...I did 7 years in Central Prison to prove it.......
just fooling lil k I'm a model father and kids love me, so there.
I know. I know by now that what you say here and who you are can sometimes be vastly different.
I am a heavy metal deviant though, just not a pedophile.
Are you done making that friggin' racket out in the garage, Bear?
I'm trying to get some sleep over here.
DAMMIT! THIS IS NOT ABLE2DOYOURHOMEWORKFORYOU.COM!
(Sorry, just had to say that.)
Hi squinn! Still hanging out with that ursine rocker?
Just bopping in to say hi Squinney :-D
excuse me, Mr. Music Critic friggin' racket? RACKET????? This is classic rock refined to the nth degree...not to mention deathless poetry...that's the trouble with you swamp dwellers....no appreciation for the classics....
Ruby, Ruby, where you been so long?
Don't stop drinking whiskey baby since you been gone
Ain't no one I know do it as good as you
Licking on that licking stick the way you do
You got the lips to make a strong man weak and a heathen pray
Givin' you the jump it ain't the way you speak, Lord it's just the way
Go down

And the way you hum, sting like a bumble bee bzzzz

So go down
Oh baby, rub it on
It's still as sweet, [yeah it's sticky and sweet,]
It's been so long [and it's been so long]
And no else got a touch like you [ain't no one else...]
I let you do the things to me [I'll let you do little things to me]

It feels good, it feels good, oh yeah
Girl you do it like you should (?)
I loved it so much
You make a ??? of a man (You make me glad I'm a man)
Go down
A little respect for the art please......
(Jumping up and down, waving like crazy)
Hi, Montana and SealPoet!!!!!!!
Wow! You all still look great! Life must be agreeing with you!
BTW, just showed this to Cub before he goes to school. We agreed that we were both trying to make it harder than necessary. Aint that just the story of my life lately! : )
