SRV manages to make the guitar look like an appendage he was born with.

And then this guy doesn't even know how to hold the thing right, not that it matters.

Prince? Nah...

Great in a number of ways, but guitar playing is not one of them. Any studio journeyman could have played his riffs, and there was nothing at all unique about his technique.

Eric Clapton was consider to be God, and so he must be high on the list.

Lindsey Buckingham is quite a talented guitarist and underrated, but not in the top 10. Much better songwriter than musician.

@Finn dAbuzz,
Santana gets overlooked, I ripped guitar heaven awhile back, he lends his style to a few classics, really quite good.

@wayne,
Normally I don't overlook him.

The song Smooth perfectly describes his style.

Technical virtuosity but with a conservative point of view.

No distortion effects, just pure clean notes.

I really respect that style and Carlos.

His mysticism is probably a powerful influence, but I've never taken the time to determine what exactly his mysticism is. It seems to be Hindu related, but I could easily be wrong. Not convinced, however, that his musical genius extend to things metaphysical.

Love his guitar though.

@Ragman,
Superb, but derivitive of Hendrix.

Every musical genius has their influence, but (as much as I love Stevie Ray) he mimics more than he interprets.

Having said this, he is, never-the-less, in my top 10.

@Finn dAbuzz,
Yes, Carlos definitely has the talent and a style all his own, excellent .
By the way, I dimmed the lights and spent an evening watching the live at Ronnie Scott's video the other night, I must agree with you, Jeff Beck really has no equal.
