A dollmaker uses 1 and 2/3 yards of fabric to make a doll. How many dolls can be made with 8 and 1/3 yards?

Here is what I did ..tell me what I am doing wrong....

1 2/3 = 5/3
x 8 1/3 = 25/3 5/3 divided by 25/3= 5/3 x 3/5 =15/75 dolls?
______________

========================================

I bought 0.25 pounds of cherries, 1.09 pounds of oranges and 2.34 pounds of apples. How many pounds of fruit did I buy?

add all three: total 4.77 pounds is this correct? This is to simple, am I missing a step?

What you did wrong is: you did 5/3 divided by 25/3 when you should have done 25/3 divided by 5/3, which equals 5 - the number of dolls that could be made with 8 and 1/3 yards.

The problem is that you added the 1.09 pounds of oranges twice. The correct answer is: 3.68 pounds.
