It is performance review time. Deepak's appraisal didn't go off very well. Deepak is not happy.
Given his experience and with his knowledge of the industry Deepak knows he will get offers with a 15% hike.
Deepak openly discusses the situation with his manager Raghu. Raghu tells him that the Management cannot give him a promotion this year. However if he continues to perform like this the organization is likely to promote him next year.
However his present organization is one of the leading software developers. Besides his relation with his reporting manager is also informal and stress free. He has been here now close to 5years and has got adapted to the work culture. He is apprehensive about change, because this would mean new set up, new boss, new team.
In the meantime Deepak's college mate, Sumit, also in the same field contacts him. Sumit wants to start his own business-a consultancy. Sumit has always been a sharp student with strong business acumen. Deepak admits that Sumit's proposal is definitely exciting - it will open up a lot of opportunities and challenges. However risks are involved.... but who doesn't want to be his own master.
Deepak doesn't know what to do.
Raghu meanwhile over a cup of coffee with his reporting manager Shailendra mentions about his chat with Deepak and the fear of losing a valuable resource.
Shailendra tells Raghu that the organization cannot give promotions every time a valuable resource threatens the management and tells Raghu to think out of the box.
It's easier said than done. Senior management is not bothered. After all how does it matter to Shailendra whether Deepak stays on or not ? Raghu is the one who will face the brunt.
Raghu has no clue what he should do.
You are required to solve Deepak's as well as Raghu's problem.
