Too Tiny Font

Reply Mon 2 May, 2011 08:40 am
I'm not sure how to describe this "technically", but here we go....I need to figure out a way to make the font on Websites appear bigger when I access the Internet through my laptop. Words appear too small on the screen and I have to strain my eyes to read them.

How is this done? Is there a particular setting that I can fiddle around with?

Many thanks for helping

@spidergal,
Does your browser have a VIEW choice on the top line., perhaps next to EDIT?

I have safari and a mac but I seem to remember that there was also a simple way to zoom up text size on pc's too. Does your browser have a Help button?

(someone smarter than I am about pc laptops should be along soon)

@spidergal,
You can change for just the websites in your browser.
It is under "view" - "text size" in Windows Explorer.

You can also change the text size for your computer in general.
Control panel - appearance and personalization - display

This is under Windows 7 or Vista.
Ask if you have a different version.

@parados,
Thanks for chiming in, parados.

I'm using Windows Vista (My brother tells me I'm one of the last few fools on this planet still using it.). Under Control Panel, I don't see the display option. There's, however, an option to change the screen resolution. Do you think that will help with this?

@spidergal,
Try pressing CTRL and + (you don't need to hold upper case)
Hold down CTRL and successive presses of + give you successive levels of magnification.
To reverse, use CTRL and -

@spidergal,
In Vista...
Right click on desktop.
Then click personalize

on the left side of that window is "adjust font size"
click that and make the adjustment to visible font.

You may have to restart to finalize changes.

@spidergal,
The method I have suggested is by far the simplest. I suggest you try it first before messing about with restarts.

@fresco,
I second this, Control +, Control - and Control 0 (reset to default).

Edit: not only is this faster but it will zoom more than just the font, making it not break layouts etc.

@spidergal,
The CTRL method is cool, but it does not change the default font size, and has to be applied for every Web page.

I went to Vista settings, as Parados had suggested, and changed the default font size.

What a relief - I was scared for my eyesight!
