My favorite flower. When I lived in CA I never had any luck growing them, since moving to Florida they bloom like crazy. I have them growing all around my back deck.

@jcboy,
Mmmm, I love the scent of gardenias. Take some more photos and show off the rest of your gardens. I bet they are just as beautiful. Is that a rubber tree plant I see in the background or is it a banana tree? Can't see the leaves well enough to be sure.

Which part of FLA are you in? My brother and his family lived in New Tampa Bay for a few years before the humidity levels got to be too much for his arthritis and asthma.

@jcboy,
Wow! Gorgeous.

My grandma lived in Florida and one year my dad planted an avocado pit in some obscure corner of her condo's grounds. It kept growing and growing over the years, I don't think I saw it past 12 years old or so (the tree, not me) but it was sizable by then.

@sozobe,
Thank you,

My neighbor is 72 years old and he’s lived in Florida for 0ver 30 years. I have this tree that is three times taller then the house growing by the fence, it’s actually a pretty tree. I asked my neighbor if he knew what kind of tree it was he said, “It’s a weed” Smile

@Butrflynet,
I live in St. Pete, it's like living on an island. Moved here from CA in October of 2009. I love it here.

@ehBeth,
Lots of textures there too. Did you design the layout and plant choices yourself? If so, you're quite a talented gardener, JC.

@jcboy,
JCboy, I hope your gardens will be just as beautiful today after the line of storms passes overhead. Looks like the Tampa, St. Pete area is right in the path. Be safe!

About a month ago I planted two small bamboo plants, they grow tall and spread out quickly. They can grow to twenty feet tall, lots of privacy for the back yard.

@jcboy,
The bromeliad is starting to bloom this morning. This plant is wrapped itself around the tree in the front yard and growing like crazy.

@jcboy,
Almost looks like a giant Christmas cactus from a distance. Beautiful plant. What do you do to keep your garden foliage looking so insect-free? Does it come naturally to your garden or are you out there pinching bugs all day and spraying nasty chemicals?

@Butrflynet,
It actually comes natural. The weather here is much like Hawaii. We get so much rain everything just grows like crazy.

I put a houseplant outside and planted it in the side yard and it’s taking off like bananas!

The only time I had to use chemicals was for the wasp nest. They nest around the house and the garage. You spray one nest and the next day they have started another one. They are out of control here.
