@panzade,
Not to put down artists I have not named. I don't see any way to settle 0n who is the best, ever.

@Sturgis,
Sturgis-Van Ronk was my favorite folk singer up until the 70's. Still looking for the album with "Would You Like To Swing On A Star" on it.

It's the last song on his album Sunday Street , he'd performed it on an earler albuum with The Hudson Dusters (DVR & The Hudson Dusters) as well. Sunday Street also features his take of the Joni Mitchell tune, That Song About The Midway which he handles beautifully

Frank Sinatra- Singers come and singers go, but "old blue eyes" really knew how to put out songs that still sound fresh today.

@Phoenix32890,
So true. I listen to his albums arranged by Nelson Riddle all the time. That stuff swings.
Oh and Gordon Jenkins did him right too.

@panzade,
Dave's version of that song is on "Dave Van Ronk and the Hudson Dusters" 1967. The album cover has Dave in the foreground with foot resting on the antique car and the group inside.

I knew Dave personally many years ago (may he RIP). I liked his version of that song and the Hawaiian song "My Little Grass Shack in Kealakekua, Hawaii".

"Songs for Ageing Children" (1973) is one of my fave albums of his.

Martin Sexton blows me away with his amazing talent. He has the range of angels and musicality that rivals none.

Hawksley Workman can fill an arena with his voice and personality.

@panzade,
Back in the day, he gave me a copy. My sister had been his manager/life partner. Regardless of that history, I liked this album in and of it's own right. It's a classic.

Sandy Denny of the '70s-80s Brit-folk-rock musical group Fairport Convention (may she RIP) was one of the finest singers I've heard.

@Ragman,
Perhaps you would like a 2cd set of him recorded at the Univ Of Indiana in October of 1964. It's a fascinating bootleg(In other words it's not on his discography) well recorded with all the in-between song patter left in.
I 'll be glad to see that you get it.

@MorganBieber,
Getting back to the Original Poster, Morgan. I'm going to listen to Justin Beeb and try to hear what you see in him.
As an old fart I have a tendency to dismiss the "latest rage" and that's a n0-no for a prof musician.

@panzade,
Bless you. It would be most kind. We can exchange info through chat, if you'd like.

Also, back to the Sandy Denny & Fairport Convention...before Judy Collins made this one of her biggest hits, Sandy recorded this version of "Who Knows Where the Times Goes':

@Ragman,
Agreed Ragman, about Denny. But to me her high point will always be the album she did with Fotheringay. They were much better at giving her a framework to sing in than was Fairport.

Re: Crash Test Dummies..Brad Roberts. They just put out a new album recently, I believe.
Check out Son of Dave. He was a member of the band who's gone solo as a one man band.

@panzade,
Amen to that, bro!

Not only do you have good taste, but you know your music and musicians. Seeing you are a musician (peeked at your profile), it's no surprise.

@panzade,
speaking of Fairport, i was listening to a BBC documentary about Nick Drake hosted by Brad Pitt ( apparently a big fan), really cool but sad story, if anyone was interested i could upload it for folks to download, it's about an hour long
