Why didn't the folks behind Family Matters milk the Urkel cash cow for all its worth?

They could have done more with the Urkel character:

The show was dull and boring till Urkel showed up-Jaleel White's character helped save the show.

They could have done more with Urkel- make him a spy/superspy/secret agent, a superhero, a cowboy, an adventurer, etc.

They could have had an Urkel Saturday morning cartoon spin-off, or an Urkel Family Matters comic book.

An Urkel video game.

Wouldn't you agree?

@djjd62,
They had a breakfast cereal and an Urkel doll- that was it.

They could have had a Family Matters movie.

Did you watch the show?

That kid was playing Urkel well after his voice changed. Urkel had a five o'clock shadow. The character had been so thoroughly exhausted that the writers resorted to giving him a "cool" alter ego, Stefan. Also I seem to remember an Urkel robot.

**** was over. And what is wrong with you?

I could see them making an "The Adventures of Urkman" comic book.

I remember Perfect Strangers, it was the show Family Matters is a spin-off of. Balki Bartokomous was a popular character:

They should have had a Family Matters and Perfect Strangers crossover in which Urkel meets Balki and vice versa.

Balki could have appeared on Family Matters and Urkel appear on PErfect Strangers.

Harriet Winslow worked for the Chicago Chronicle on both shows-she would have been the perfect link to bring ths together:

you seem to be mistaking popularity with things that are good

in reality most tv shows are incredibly lame, including the 2 you've mentioned

look at the crap that's popular on tv today, reality shows, american idol, popular yes, but not good

@djjd62,
And all those stupid new African-American sitcoms.

I hate Love That Girl-one of the dumbest shows I've ever seen.

@djjd62,
I don't care about shows being good- a lot of stupid shows are popular and fun to watch.

Urkel was a brainiac and he was resourceful. I could see him operating as a superhero- maybe something in the vein of Superman or Batman.

"Have no fear, the URKMAN is here!"

That could have worked in a comic book.
