This is a thread to track and discuss the developing story of the quake and tsunamis.
There has been some loose numbers on the magnitude, but I've heard as high as M8.9. That would make this the 7th largest earthquake in recorded history (largest in Japan's history) I heard reported on CNN. That may require citation.
Tsunami watches are currently in effect in the Pacific.

not sure why you dinna see the other one, but you could also try checking for tags before starting a thread on a popular subject...

It's early still for it to be popular, but you're right. I don't understand what populates the New Topics tab. It's not the first time this has happened.
