Are you familiar with equivalent ratios? You could set your number that is greater than 100 up as the numerator and solve for the denominator that is equivalent to the percent as a fraction. For example:
147/x = 14/100
now, solve for x that makes the two ratios (fractions) equal. To do that you cross multiply 14x=14700 and then solve for x=14700/14=1050.
Let's see if this makes sense...
you want some number x that equals 147 when multiplied by .14
147/0.14=1050 and 1050 times 0.14 = 147
