Term Needed For Magnetic Properties...

Reply Sat 20 Dec, 2003 01:32 am
What would a term be for a group of metals that magnets are attracted to? (Besides just "magnetic", I mean...) I'm going to be placing an order and would like to be more specific than just asking for "metal that magnets are attracted to"

Thanks!

The term you are looking for is "ferromagnetic".

The term ferrous just means "containing iron". I believe all ferrous metals "ferromagnetic", however not all ferromagnetic metals are ferrous.

Nickle is strongly attracted to a magnet. It is ferromagnetic. However, nickle is not "ferrous".
