@Letty,
Excellent timing Letty. Excellent legwork Letty. Get rid of the Yahoo Toolbar. Uninstall it. I bet this will fix the problem.

Could be corrupted by a glitch or is incompatible with an IE update.

@tsarstepan,
Thanks, tsar, but I guess I'll have to wait until the kids from Orlando come over. I never know what I'm doing until it's too late. Rolling Eyes

I don't have a Yahoo toolbar.

What Spyhunter shows is:

Rogue.Antivirus 8 (1 infection)

Whazit (9 infections)
- homepage hijacker and IE toolbar -
bundled with Ncase
http:/ /home.Whazit.com

I tried to download Spybot, but could not. I did download Adsense and it has been scanning my computer for two hours without yet reporting a problem.

@edgarblythe,
Can you just cut and paste the logfile? It should show everything that is running, all toolbars and all startup items.

That explains your symptoms.

Now take 2 aspirin and a good stiff drink.
It won't solve the problem, but it might make you feel better.

I was using AVG. It so happens AVG expired a week or two back and I have been saving up to get new antivirus.

You might want to try avast antivirus at avast.com
It's free for home use. They will ask you to upgrade but not necessary.

@parados,
I got an antivirus since I made that post. It has not helped in this situation, but at least I do have it.

@parados,
Hard to believe the amount of time a person will spend nursing a sick computer.

@edgarblythe,
You can start by checking to see if you can do the following:

Quote:
In the Whazit/Whattt variant, you can click Start > Setting > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and select the entry 'whazit tools' to remove it.

Other variants need to be manually remove

I ran hijack this. Got a message:

I don't think posting the log will do all that much good anyway.

@parados,
Whazit is not listed there, parados. I don't see a thing about it anywhere I have been.

adaware has been analyzing my computer for over three hours with no end in sight. I bet it's a waste of time, but I am letting it work.

@edgarblythe,
I like adaware.

but it doesn't stop or fix everything.

(it IS the best free malware product I've found...)

@Rockhead,
Spyhunter costs money that I don't have to spend. It would have deleted the problem I think.

@edgarblythe,
Did it give you a list on your screen of all sorts of entries and ask you if you wanted to repair any of them?

@engineer,
It gave me a list of what to delete, then sent me to the registry to look for them. I got lost searching for number one. I am going to print the list and then see if I can find them on a hijackthis readout.
