To listen to someone is to be like nature to someone. Nietzsche once said that “We like to be out in nature so much because it has no opinion about us”- thus the listener, who suspends all his judgement, brings the comfort and security that nature itself provides for us, and allows man to come closer to himself.
Nature brings man closer to himself, because it is in the nature of the world to allow man to be himself; the listener does precisely the same thing, he allows man to be himself and express himself with transparency. Those who throw their judgement at someone not only distort that person’s nature, but they also distort their own, by not being like nature.
