Quote:My Favorite Things
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
What are the things you think about to cheer yourself up when you're having a crummy day?
Birds................lovely wild birds flying gracefully through the skies. I like to remember the time when I saw the sky covered with snow geese flying north.
Phoenix, they're rather lovely, aren't they?
I had to go with the snowflakes - partly because of the special type of silence that is in the air when you have sticky snow. Lovely.
When I'm having a crummy day I like to go off by myself and get into projects I've been putting off, such as crafts, painting, etc...
It makes me feel much better when I'm being creative :-)
Oooops, you said "things you think about". Hmmm, well I try to think of happy things, but nothing in particular comes to mind.
I voted my belly . . . of course . . .
I note that i have unintentionally chosen the most popular option . . .
Depends on the time of year. Starting just after xmas I often think about planting, but by July I'm kind of over that. My animals fit the bill nicely much of the time. And watching the trees/water/wildlife/weather always seems to make me more peaceful. Have I told anyone here that I saw a big beautiful bald eagle handing out at the very tiptop of an old maple that overlooks the Mystic Lakes in Medford?

I voted for snow sticking on my eyelashes but since that so rarely happens, I'm with k on this. Even thinking about images of trees/water/wildlife/weather is good for calming me.
Bald eagles are always remarkable, I think, and always worth mentioning.
Can I get that schnitzel with spaetzle?
hmmmmmm bellies and bald eagles and spaetzle.
I'm going to have to think about all of this. I wonder if this will lead to weird dreams?
{nodding at piffka!}
Fishin, I had forgotten all about spaetzle. I loved that stuff in college.
Mrs. SealPoet.
(and you guys)

Food is one of the things I miss most about Germany. If I ever get back there I'm going to gorge myself the whole time. I really wish there were some decent German resturants around Boston. You can find food from every other region of the globe around here but German fare is hard to come by for some reason.
I sit myself down at my piano and play a few tunes
P.S. ebeth, I got the little Santa idea form you!
ehbeth is chock full of delightful little emoticon thingies today.
They're nice.
Snowflakes are nicest, I think.
Or, being out in a new-fallen snow, with a loved one or two, romping and playing, throwing snowballs, tall pine trees looming, starting to get cold, coming inside, and having some hot chocolate.
That's nice too.
smiles, purrs, hugs, simplistic beauty, joy in general makes me feel better.
Now, as to what I think of to make me feel better...depends on where I am, whats going on, what needs to be done, blah blah blah.
Just reading through this thread is making me feel good!
Particularly Sozobe's snow & hot chocolate thoughts.
If I feel crummy or seasonally affected, I think about the extended squirrel family that lives in my back yard and how busy they are, or about squeezing my kitties with the extra layer of chub they've acquired over the past couple of months.
Comfort food, what else was it named after but schnitzel and noodles. Okay, okay, mashed potatoes. Those too.
Snowflakes on eyelashes and thinking about hiking in the mountains and who might be coming into the room in the next few seconds.
Dinner - with friends, or a good friend, lots of talk, silly and serious, good wine, good coffee - mmmmmmmmmmm.
