This was in the Declaration of Independence:

...all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness

Equality is implicit.

The American Revolution occurred before the French Revolution. The French king Louis XVI , the one who married the Austrian Princess Marie Antoinette, helped finance the American Revolution so there would not be American independence without French help. In the meantime, the finances in France was very bad and thus was born the French Revolution.

That's not what Bill meant. He meant: Although all men (and women) are equal in the way they were created, they are not equal in what they make of themselves.

There is a night and day like difference between created equally and striving for equality for all, as Thomas originally pointed out. Ask any former Soviet.

These words were meant in a straight forward manner as there was no Soviet Union. It is the Soviets who twisted meanings.

The use of 'created' was to offset the Royal claim of Divine Right To Rule. This Rule was exploited and the Declaration was to void this claim. It implies equality. If he meant inequality there is no reason for the Revolution as George III as monarch automatically meant inequality.

I feel like I'm piling on in a fight with an armless man, but...

"All men are created equally" in no way implies that all men will have equal life experiences and rewards.

Equality of opportunity and equality of result are two very different things.

What actually makes the conservatives run into a catch-22 situation is with their win in November, they may want to cut the deficit, but they will not cut defense.

Where else are they going to cut? Social security and Medicare? That'll certainly make them a one-term cinderella.
