I want to start scanning negatives and slides. I need to buy a new printer and am looking at multi-use printers. So far, I like one of HP's Photosmarts and one of Canon's PIXMAs. I am seeing online that you can get an accessory to some scanners which will allow scanning of negatives and slides. And some higher end scanners have such devices built in, but I can't afford those.

Does anyone use a negative/slide scanner? Does anyone know a reliable consumer-report site for such devices?

@littlek,
No recommendation on equipment, but before you shell out a lot of money, I would look into a service to do it for you. It's not only the equipment, but the time involved. Manually loading all those negatives will take you a long time and kill some of the joy of the project.

I agree, engineer, but I didn't see any services listed online. I'll look into it further.
