Remembering John Lennon

In My Life

There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

I was on 72nd Street in New York on the night and at the time John Lennon was killed. I was several blocks away from The Dakota -- over on the East Side spending the night at a corporate apartment -- but I was there that night.

Terrible event!

It was a personal tragedy for millions of us. I still grieve that such a thing would happen.

It was one of the greatest losses ever in the history of the music industry.

I've been persuaded to sing 'Imagine' at a memorial concert...

Still, he gave us amazing music and words by which to live by.

1960. John Lennon in Hamburg on a fairground, near the Reeperbahn, St. Pauli, called "Heiligengeistfeld".

Would The Beatles have been as successful without John?

If you would have put in a faceless guitarist, The Beatles might have been more successful because of the lack of controversy. Now days controversy can further an artists career, but in those days (I speak as if I know how things were) controversy wasn't a wanted cloud.

And Wings wasn't exactly The Beatles minus John.

hmmmm.... imagine all the people....

hmmmm.... Whatever gets you to the light it's alright, it's alright
Out the blue or out of sight alright, alright
Don't need a gun to blow your mind oh no, oh no
Hold me darling come on listen to me

hmmmm.... Woke up this morning blues around my head
No need to ask the reason why
Went to the kitchen and lit a cigarette
Blew my worries to the sky
I'm stepping out
I'm stepping out

hmmmm.... Our life together is so precious together
We have grown - mmm, we have grown
Although our love's still special
Let's take a chance and fly away somewhere alone

hmmmm.... read the news today, oh, boy
About a lucky man who's made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well, I just had to laugh

hmmmm.... You anglo pigs and scotties
Sent to colonize the North
You wave your bloody Union Jack
And you know what it's worth!
How dare you hold to ransom
A people proud and free
Keep Ireland for the Irish
Put the English back to sea!
Sunday bloody Sunday
Bloody Sunday's the day!

hmmmm.... Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to
Strawberry fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about

hmmmm.... When I was younger, so much younger than today (I never needed)
I never needed anybody's help in any way (now)
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured (and now I find)
Now I find, I've changed my mind, I've opened up the doors
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you, please, please help me?

hmmmm.... Ev'rybody's talking about
Bagism, Shagism, Dragism, Madism, Ragism, Tagism
This-ism, that-ism, is-m, is-m, is-m.
All we are saying is give peace a chance
All we are saying is give peace a chance

hmmmm.... Every man has a woman who loves him
In rain or shine or life or death
If he finds her in this life time
He will know when he presses his ear to her breast

Cav,I love that song...and I still remember the fateful day the the music died.

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun

And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong

And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun

And so happy Christmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear.

Just such a shame he didn't get the chance to grow older. <sigh> What a waste.

Without John the Beatles would never have gathered Paul George and Ringo into a single group.

Child, my point was that while Paul and George's careers took on a life of their own post-Beatles, in terms of hit power, neither did nearly as well as when they were with John, although they did produce hits. As for Ringo, well...

In fairness to Ringo, he had some recordings I like.

All I've got is a photograph
To remind me you're not coming back
Anymore
