Hi!

Is LOL "lots of love" or "laugh out loud"?

And what does "IMAO" mean? Please.

Thank you.

@mark noble,
i think of LOL as laughing out loud

i think you mean LMAO, which means laughing my ass off (ROFLMAO means rolls (or rolling) on floor laughing my ass off)

IMHO means in my humble opinion

@djjd62,

Thank you! So 'Have a nice day, but act gracefully' is 'Handbag'?
And 'Down in philadelphia sits ten impressive chinese koalas' is .......?

@DrewDad,
So true. Chinese koalas have got more sense than to sit in Philafuckindelphia.

I associate the usage of LOL as a sign of immaturity. It's something my nieces used to ad nauseum when they were young. To make it worse, they would use the abbreviated expression and then follow it with a half a dozen emoticons to really get the point across. I know we sometimes want (or need) to express emotion in our computer communication, but to me LOL is the equivalent of a laugh track applied to a bad TV comedy. I think grown-ups should avoid it.

And instead say what in a text? ("I found that to be humorous"? "That caused me to chuckle a bit"?) lol.

@Ticomaya,
I was fine when the infamous A2K GustavRatzehoffer, who would never use LOL or a happy face, would just say: ha! or "funny stuff", or "thanks for the laugh". I think LOL has been overused to the point of pointless. Maybe in 20 years in will cool again- like the word "groovy".

Like "not"... The late 1990s called. They want their LOL back.

@Green Witch,
Hi Green witch!

I'm with you on this. But they are unavoidable. And if you tell people what you don't like - They WILL get a kick out of flinging more of it in your direction.

Always use reverse-psychology if you want to get shot of things you don't like: Like this.

I think all these abbreviations are vital to the current age in which we exist and look forward to seeing the entire global mindset focused on nothing less than originating a universal format that can be used by one and all - Even enforced, if necessary.

Abbs Rule OK!!!

I heard an MSNBC newscaster read LOL as Lots Of Laughs instead of Laugh Out Loud. I sure did LOL at her.
