I happen to like police procedurals set in different countries around the world, and Powell's
has always had a good selection.
What I'm getting at is that from my view, their selection can be
more wide ranging than amazon, or used to be.

But basically it is one huge bookstore.

The Portland zoo is.... okay. We were members there for several years when Mo was little but it was mostly for the park itself instead of the zoo.

The zoo is located in a complex called Washington Park. If you go to the zoo you should try to visit the Japanese Garden, which is my favorite part of the complex:

Yes, I will. Thank u. It looks beautiful.
I called there, and thay said that thay rent little electric cars
to get around for $25 a day. I paid $35 for the San Diego Zoo and for Disneyworld, in Florida.

I kinda collect zoos. I like animals.
I used to like feeding peanuts to the elephants,
but thay don't seem to have that anymore.

Not in New Jersey. You can't pump your own EXCEPT on the Federal Turnpikes.

I love tax protesters. ( and I love people who are just too cheap to pay taxes but love all the amenities those taxes bring. Wasn't her food brought to that restaurant on public roads?)

We used to have a guy buy at the store who hated paying the sales tax. I told him "No problem." I just raised the final price to include the tax amount. Checked him out as 'tax exempt'
(After he would leave I'd void the sale and re-ring with the tax amount paid. The State wants either the tax amount to show on a sale OR a tax exempt number. If neither shows, the store has to pay.)
I love computers, you can do things (like void sales) so fast.

I remember Dyslexia saying he thought very highly of the Japanese Garden in Portland. I don't know its official name.

The Lasagna Ristorante http://www.lasagnarestaurant.com/
on the corner of 20th St & 8th Ave.

Its FUN to be in NY in the summer; it has a feel about it.

The new French Restaurant across 20th St. is TROIS CANARDS
http://www.lovelyrestaurants.com/TroisCanards
The youthful waitress told me that it has only been open a month.
It apparantly does not have its own website yet.

I like duck, but 3 in 1 nite is a challenge; I look forward to it.

As a semi-amusing micro-triviality:
if thay add a tip and call it a service charge,
thay have taxed that charge and added that to the sales tax.

are we talking detective stories here?

my mother really enjoyed a series by Barbara Nadel

Barbara Nadel has written twelve books in her series about Çetin İkmen, a chain-smoking and hard-drinking detective on the Istanbul police force, and his colleagues Mehmet Süleyman, Balthazar Cohen and Armenian pathologist Arto Sarkissian.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to meet a fella who brags about taking an active part in one of the most despicable, most sordid series of events in American history. David brags about helping Joe McCarthy ruin people's lives, all based on the frantically childish notions of some pretty sick people.

OmSigDavid, the Libertarian, the lawyer, the purported to be bright guy, helping government ruin people's lives.

Isn't it ironic?

Are you taking your gun to Oregon, Dave?

@JTT,
JTT, Omsig and I could hardly vary more, but we have a history of not slamming each other. This could be called avoidance on my part, and thus not retribution on his - but I like David for some other reasons.

The news is, people on a2k of different views can just talk, while still taunting from time to time.

I suppose this is a complicated idea.

That they can, Osso, but Om went far beyond views. He actively, by his own admission remember, brags about trying, and I suspect he was at least partially successful, to ruin the lives of those who did nothing wrong, those who committed no crimes.

He should have never been admitted to law school or if he was already a lawyer, he should have been disbarred and jailed.

@djjd62,
Yes, I particularly liked one of those, if not the other two.. don't know about the rest. Twelve, egads, I have to get a grip. I think I've posted about one or two of her books.

I'm pretty picky, as it happens, while I know nothing and explore.

@JTT,
I used to make a point of only speaking to and befriending clones of myself but that got really, really boring after a few minutes.
