My Polish friend informed me that the entire Krakow downtown was recreated from old photographs after WWII. There are minor changes especially the tower.

Even then when I visited Krakow in 1994, the downtown looked older than before WWII, and not a recreation.

Also, when I visited East Berlin during that same trip, they were renovating all the buildings to make them look like pre-WWII. I still remember the huge murals on cloth in front of the buildings they were renovating, and when I returned on 2003, they had completed all the renovations, and East Berlin took on the ambiance of their pre-WWII architectural style; magnificent. What fascinated me the most was the good condition that the Brandenburg Gate retained throughout all these years. I'm glad they maintained it so well. I can still hear Reagan; "tear down this wall!"
