I'm doing more ocean and river cruises as I get older, because it requires less hassle on packing and unpacking, but still get to see different destinations - while pigging out on good food and drink. I'm already booked for two cruises for 2012; Jan-Oceania Marina Western Caribbean 10-day wine cruise, and Apr-Viking Southern France 8-day wine river cruise.
Still looking at tons of brochures to find more journeys for next year. Hope I can go back to Cuba for at least two weeks to see more of the country.
Piacenza... I've been there, looking out the window from the train at the city. Dealing with some women from Mexico who, after we tried to talk, wanted me to help them find a hostel in Venice. Ladies, religious I thought, with no plans.. I probably told them about the tourist office, such as it is. They were wildly late in their search.. We had mixed language ability on all our parts but two of us could talk. Add that that one woman might have understood italian more than I did when spoken fast.
I have taken a train from Milano to Venice, but I don't remember much about it except when we ended at the train station in Venice, I walked a few blocks and found a hotel for my few days there.
As for bathrooms/WCs/banos/toilets/mt fields, I'm an expert. I can revisit any tourist site many years later, and I would remember where they are.
My first visit to the Forbidden City was in 1992. Eight years later, I knew where the hole-in-the-ground toilets were in the concubine garden in the rear behind the palaces.
Yes, yes, I said so, look back. I've read about him, oft mentioned but not memoried by me in some way, since I am your basic lightweight while still interested.
