SCRABBLE TIME

M8 dropped her Z to the floor without notice. I did not notice either. Luckely the Waiter brought US the missing letter back on a silver tray. This was a few years ago in Pensao Londres at Madeira Iles. Personally I prefer Trivial Pursuit.

I've had a few games in the low 400's.

My personal best in points scored on a single word is 110 ("JAILBAIT" on a Triple Word Score).

The pros have all kinds of tricks to push up scores. I have friends I absolutely "won't"play with because they are too good and too impatient.

Impressive! I once managed to get an X on a Triple Letter Score in two directions. It was a 2-letter word that wound up netting me 50+ points.

I do not remember what my highest play score was, but I go over 500 once in a while and I mean once in a great while.

My best friend in the world and the one I've known the longest (we are at 49 years and counting. We are thinking about having a 50th year celebration next year) is a Scrabble nut.

Yeah, Scrabble is one of those rare games where I don't mind the "analysis paralysis." Usually during that time I'm plotting my own master move (or not) anyway.

Do you ever find yourself in this situation? Your tiles are, say, R-D-E-N-U-U-U, and you think to yourself that you could probably have a decent shot at a 7-letter word if you got rid of one or two of those U's. Do you swap tiles? That would be my instinct but I've noticed pros don't seem to swap much. What do they do instead? Try to use the U's? Give up on the 7-letter word?
