Happy Holidays Everyone!!
I am looking to purchase a DVD-Burner. Does anyone have recommendations on what type (brand) would be good? I want to transfer VHS and 8mm Video Cassettes onto DVDs.
Any other information, tips, hints, etc. is welcome.
Thanks.

As to what brand I personally do not see much difference between the brands. Some are better than others but you prolly know the big names (like Creative etc).
They are coming out of the woodwork as far as the burners that are aimed at the TV consumer market just as much as the computer market. The Phillips and now two others not only burn DVD's but have TIVO and an 80 Gigabyte harddrive built in. I can try Consumer Reports and see what they recommend but you also might try:

No reviews on Consumer Reports for DVD burners yet.
Craven, you link goes to an error screen "Sorry, this user name already taken."
I think
this is the link Craven intended.
I haven't looked at the stand-alone DVD burners intended to the TV-to-DVD market but I have an Optowrite in my PC that works just fine and I'd have no problem recommending it to anyone.
Here's a top-of-the-line with excellent reviews which can be pre-ordered:

Wow! That's way pricey there LW. The Optowrite can be had for under $120 (it is an internal drive though so that knocks off some right there but...)
An internal drive won't do what the IOMEGA does and will always be cheaper. I had to have my internal DVD unit replaced before the warantee was up -- I think it was made in Borneo.
I tried to post one that is available at Sam's Club but somethin' happened.
Here it is and it was recommended by a computer guru friend:
