@djjd62,
Heh. I could understand how someone who didn't like music would like that track! For me it's a childhood thing as kids we used to take the piss out of the lyrics all the time 'We had joy we had fun, we had raisins up my bum'.
The track actually has a fairly convoluted history from memory, it was Jacques Brel's originally I think.
I categorize it with the overly maudlin: Ebony Eyes - The Everly Brothers, Teddy Bear - Red Sovine, Honey - Bobby Goldsboro, Tell Laura I love her et al.
I'm taking requests at work and hitting shuffle occasionally - the requests can be for individual tracks or albums, chart positions, year released, genre, keyword, whatever. At the moment I'm listening to Ohrwurm by Harmonia, which is some Krautrock that turned up in a list of 1974 songs. Now it's segued into
One of the truly great Australian songs - but the version I'm listening to is much more acoustic, with mandolins and such like, a lot less percussion and a lot of piano - Still the Church, though - never heard it before.
Heard they flew under the radar here but were big in the UK? I had no clue about the Walker bros until last night, Panzade. Since then, I've listened to Scott 3 about five times. Will have to wait until next paycheck to pick up Scott 4.
Always had a soft spot for Oz music, always proud of the jewels that poked out of the drek. And there was so much drek.
And I think a great song has the ability to be interpreted by other artists and works with different genres, instrumentations, and moods. This one does. Not bad considering Kilby 0nly ever mastered one note. (I am such a bitch).
