Today my co-worker has nominated 1976 as the playlist, so for the next 36.8 hours that's what we get, right now:

Never realised that Coolio's Gangsta's paradise was a cover. How dumb am I?

This is mainly for djjd. It's an interview with Merge Records founders Mac McCaughn and Laura Ballance on their 20th anniversary.

@Craven de Kere,
Roughly, a month ago the last real local radio talk show was taken off the airwaves in my area(South Florida) the Neil Rogers show after 30 years plus of being on.

Neil had enough funds so he does not need to worry about being on however his long term producer had started a web cast radio station to fulfill this need and at this moment that what I am listening to.

For anyone who would like to listen to an old fashion radio talk show over the internet here is the link :

@TTH,

and why did the Turtles sue De La Soul for infringement on their sample Me Myself And I?

I don't know the laws regarding infringement rights on songs.

@TTH,
Quote:
Any sample is a copy so permission must be sought in order to use it- some people might say that 'if you can recognise a separate work within another then an infringement has been committed' or 'its not quantity but quality'

Quote:
For example De La Soul's first single 'Plug Tuning' sampled Liberacé which did not cause much of a problem, probably as it made very little money, but when they sampled Hall and Oates on 'Say No Go' and the song became a hit they encountered a law suit, and worse, at the end of 1989 the Turtles sued for $1.1 million for the use of an unlicensed sample from their 1969 single 'You Showed Me.'. However the case was settled out of court for a figure 'rumoured to be in the low five figures'.

@panzade,
"*If the new “beat” or song is not “creating a new work,” it is enhancing or modifying something already created. For example, if I copy the Mona Lisa and add a mustache, I have not created something new; I have just altered something already created by another artist. Therefore, that other artist sometimes wants his cut (or whoever owns the original Mona Lisa wants his cut). They sue, and a court then decides whether I created something new or infringed on the original artist or owner."

I thought the subject made for some interesting reading and I like the way this person explained the process.
