Does anyone have (or has met) an Aibo?

I confess - I sorta want an Aibo.

I kinda like trendy gadgets - and these first little domestic AI robots are interesting.

Does anyone have one? Spent any time with one?

I gather they are different from each other, and become more so as they interact. Is this the same as a personality?

I was looking at the Sony Oz site - and reading a few stories (I guess there will not be any of the "My Aibo stole my boyfriend type, eh?) - one woman told of how there was 12 hour blackout, and she could not find her Aibo - when the lights came on, it was "hiding" under a coffee table - prolly programmed not to get stepped on - but, still.....

The company have a little biped coming out, now.....

This thread arose out of Craven pointing out that Roombas (the little robotic vacuum cleaners) are robots that men like, cos women are happy to let 'em play with 'em - heehee .... of course, he says you can program them to hassle cats.

I wonder how real animals react to Aibos? And vice versa.....would it form a feedback relationship with them? I suppose it would.

Now I REALLY want one - to do experiments on feline consciousness with....wonder if you can program it to sneak up on 'em.....

Hmm....as much as I would LOVE a vaccum-bot of some sort, I think it's still cheaper to hire an illegal immigrant to clean my place.

An Aibo is a little robot made to look like a pet - sort of like a small dog or cat.

It has artificial intelligence to some extent - it can learn - it knows its human - it has programmed responses too, but it seems they all become different.

LOl! I doubt it.

They be just metallic life-forms. Like a dog or cat.

Dunno if it has a point.

Well, you can attach little cameras to them and control their movements from your computer.
And you can teach them to dance.

Who said they're not useful? Laughing

(. . .for those who haven't heard of Aibo, they're made by Sony, they don't come cheap, and production is limited.)

cav, a Roomba is only about $200, about like a midpriced regular vac. Plus there's no hassles with the INS...

I doubt any cat has ever been snuck up on by any kind of vacuum cleaner.

Heehee - my bestest cat of all, Phoebe, enjoyed being vacuumed - it was like a good massage to her. Great for the fur problem.

sadly, no cat since has taken to it....
