Hi everyone.
My mother tongue is British English, and I would like to get a prescriptive grammar book; I have no bloody use for a descriptive book! I have been to many book stores and it seems only descriptive grammars are published today. Can anyone recommend some prescriptive grammar books to me?
Btw, I already have Fowler's Modern English Usage, 2nd and 1st editions, and The King's English, but those are usage manuals, and they assume you already know grammar.
Thank-you.
@Quincy,
Welcome to A2K ,Quincy. Here in America the bible of grammar books is Warriner's English Grammar and Composition. The grammar section is divided into many parts:
1, the parts of speech
2.the parts of a sentence
3. the phrase
4.the clause
Hope this helps
@Letty,
Looks like a very good book, thank-you.
