Your question is tricky as, unlike Paul, JC didn't write anything. The fact that the four Gospels are quite alike does not qualify, as there is a legitimate suspicion that these may have been heavily edited in the early centuries of Christianity to look that way.
I was raised in the Catholic faith - but it was not serious - and Paul was about everywhere. So I guess that this may apply to all Catholics. But, generally speaking, Catholics have a superficial knowledge of the Bible (there's a tough chance that the average atheist knows the Bible and the Gospel better than the average Catholic...). Then, because of its structure, the Roman Catholic Church allows a very narrow theoretical margin for free interpretations. So it's more the overall tradition as approved by the
powers that be than a single author that counts.
