please look at this English text...

Although many citizens enjoy spacious and well-kept state parks, some fiscally conservative State Representatives are quick to point out that state parks cost far more to maintain than other state land does.

I am not familiar with this 'spacious and well-kept state parks' ....what are these ?
could you please give an example for this ?

@tintin,
many citizens enjoy state parks - do you know what a state park is?

spacious - do you know this word?

well-kept - are you familiar with this concept?

~~~
you need to pick the phrase apart
are all three of those ideas unfamiliar to you?
Many States in the US have a park 'system.' These are land areas set aside for the recreational enjoyment of the public. There are also Federal Parks. In this context, 'system' means 'group or collection.'
well-kept means that they are clean and taken care of by the State, as far as cleanliness.
@sullyfish6,
here is a description and picture of many of the state perks in the united states .
this one is not really that far away from new york city - perhaps a 90 minute drive ... and one can enjoy wilderness and nature .
Very nice . Its ok now.
But see they said ...point out that state parks cost far more to maintain than other state land does.
is it saying maintaining a park is costlier than a simple land ?
what does 'than other state land does' mean ? does a simple land is maintained in US . ...Does state fund for maintaining a land also ?
maintaining a park with trails , boat launching sites , washrooms and other
" amenities " is more costly than just land ; that is , a forest or a meadow - which require little or no maintenance .
