Atheism does not exist. Only Atheists exist. Just like I am developing disliking for organized religion as I grow, I guess you are not liking organized Atheism. But don't we have a basic human tendency to prove ourselves right? And also it gives me a certain peace of mind knowing that this contradiction between Religionists, Atheists, different groups of Religionists and Different groups of Atheists will continue as long as human life continues. Because we have evolved to survive and as a survival mechanism we try to prove ourselves right and/or prove others wrong as well as look good and/or make others look bad.

I am much in agreement with your post. And I feel you stated it well.

He who laughs first, laughs last.

I took her statement as... we all do justify what we do and why we did it and lay our actions at the foot of, we want to/have to survive.

@Philis,
Some of us might find that somewhat simplistic because it begs the question of the "existence" of a unitary "self". The metaphor of "survival mechanisms" can be understood at the biological level, but the whole "psychoanalysis industry" is based on the overextension of the metaphor to the psychological level. We need only examine pseudo-scientific games at that level (e.g. Self esteem=Successes/Pretensions) in order to make an intellectual evaluation.

@fresco,
Quantifying that ephemeral blend of intuition, reasoning and acquired knowledge we call intelligence isn't easy, and far from accurate. You may be a genius according to one test, while you're sorely lacking in the most basic skills required by another. bite me

Thankyou Philis, for rewording in a better way. Being aware of my basic human tendency to always be right helps me. As a result, Fresco I am not going to make you wrong. You have a view point that I may not be able to understand at this time. I respect your opinion.

@DrMom,
DrMom,

Understanding of the point involves being open enough to recognize that what you call "yourself" is constantly changing. This has been called "the committee nature of self". If you can observe that, as many of us have already done, then concepts like being "right" or "wrong" are seen as passing dispositions, as indeed are the various aspects of what one calls "being an atheist".

@fresco,
If concepts like being "right" or "wrong" are seen as passing dispositions, then it would be really hard for me to call any one a " fool". Be it atheist, muslim extremist or else.

Perhaps a "fool" is one who has not observed their squabbling committee ! Wink
