i'm willing to give carl another chance, although he's bound to be less than thrilled upon hearing
that one of the team owners didn't want to sign him in the first place...
Crawford fell off in almost every offensive category to an above-average hitter that could steal bases....and at the end of the season just flopped. Even his fielding which had been stellar let the team down at the end.
in addition to manager & GM, we are also in the market for a new pitching coach...

John Lackey to have elbow surgery
Boston Red Sox pitcher John Lackey will have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, new general manager
Ben Cherington announced at his introductory news conference Tuesday, essentially ending the starter's 2012
season before it begins.
"He knows he's a much better pitcher than he showed in 2011," Cherington said. "We look forward to having
him as part of the staff, hopefully in 2013."
Lackey had the worst season of his career, going 12-12 with a 6.41 ERA in the second year of a five-year,
$82.5 million deal.
Red Sox starters went 4-13 with a 7.08 ERA down the stretch as the Red Sox blew a nine-game lead in the
wild-card race.
Lackey then became the center of controversy when the Boston Globe reported that he, Jon Lester and Josh
Beckett drank beer, ate fried chicken and played video games in the Red Sox clubhouse on their off-days.
Cherington defended the pitcher, though.
"John Lackey pitched through circumstances this year that not everyone in this room could understand,"
Cherington said, adding that Lackey was dealing with on-field and off-field issues last season.
Cherington went through most of his news conference before dropping the Lackey bombshell. He had just
said that the Red Sox were strong at the top of their rotation.
"We need to build some pitching depth," Cherington said. "Most likely we'll do that through some good,
creative, perhaps buy-low acquisitions. We're going to do our diligence on every available player, but I think
I need to hit on some pitchers this offseason, much as we hit on Alfredo Aceves last offseason."
they felt he could continue with a damaged ligament -- and he wanted to pitch.
it eventually tore, thus surgery.
in hindsight, of course they should've shut him down when it first acted up...

@Stormwatch,
Clearly the pressure to perform as well as the desire to drink and snack in the clubhouse and wreck the Sawx chances at the wildcard pushed him onward. It's all a Yankees-Cashman plot.
In consideration for the organization-wide implosion the Red Sawx management will retroactively give a rebate to season ticket holders. And, to compensate non-season ticket holders who attended (and can prove they attended) any of the Sept. season fiascos, your car will be washed while you park at any of the upcoming 2012 season games.
FWIW, the water with which they'll wash your car is made up of the saved-up tears from last September.
I'm just totally bummed.
(But da Broons are starting to catch fire)

to return to her California roots, taking a job with Time Warner to be a sideline reporter on Lakers telecasts,
according to several sources.
The popular host of "The Red Sox Report" and on-field reporter had followed fan favorites Hazel Mae and
Tina Cervasio with NESN.
