@Region Philbis,
So what is the Sox's biggest issue they need to address in order to stay competitive?

@Region Philbis,
There's so much truth there.

Pedroia is the spark plug in hitting and fielding and in so many ways, I can't overstate it.

However, Crawford couldn't possibly hit any worse than he is so let's assume that 'cause he's hit very well throughout his career, that he'll snap out of his slump. Along with that, Ortiz's power hitting and reasonable (.280+ at least 30 more HR and over 100 EBI) is/are essential, too.

Oh, and Ellsbury to be solid in the field and leadoff are a big plus. I'd love for him to steal 30 bases again, but I'm not a glutton. It'd just make them such a worrisome lineup and make the other teams toss the ball away trying to get him out.

That leaves the essential position of defensive catcher to 'Tek to and hope her comes around. the need for a top defensive catcher, a solid but not flashy SS, and the others need to do their thing to make the Sawx contendahs in October.

@Ragman,

anyone catch pedroia's 13-pitch at bat last night?
talk about tenacious.
the O returned in a big way -- 6 runs in the 7th broke open a close 'un.
back-to-back we beat felix hernandez & jered weaver.
not too shabby...

@Region Philbis,
I just read up on the Rem-Dawg. After moving from the Boston-area in 1999, I lost touch with the local goings-on of the media announcers etc. I was aware of Remy illness. I was very pleased to learn that he returned full time as the announcer-color-man for the 2010 baseball season but doesn't do some of the long road trips.

May he keep on trucking. He was my fave 2nd baseman after Mike Andrews.

@Region Philbis,
Apparently it was pretty dramatic - a 9-minute-at-bat ... and came at a dramatic time in the game. It also was against one Weaver who is one of the leading pichers in AL (ERA, strikeouts and one other category...least hits per start or some such).

Way to go, Pedroia!

@Ragman,
Would it be reasonable to suggest that the Red Sox play the Angels for the rest of the season's 120+ games?

@tsarstepan,

mike scioscia must be wondering what he did in a previous life to deserve this particular form of punishment...

@tsarstepan,
They're fattening up on them Angels for sure. I think it's just the right time for them Carmine Hose. The Offense is sputtering and spurting back to life. Crawford's and Ortiz's wake-up call happened just in nick of time, huh?

@Region Philbis,
Now if only the Red Sox could lend Crawford to the Celts for a couple of games. http://i49.tinypic.com/10p0sjq.jpg
