Saint David's Day

Today is Saint David's Day. David is the patron saint of Wales. While Saint Patrick and Ireland are more important to Americans, there are parades and celebrations honoring the ancient Welshman.

America is known as the melting pot but is melting completely a good thing? I think not. We still need small ethnic groups and the ways in which the people from think, which are partly derived from the languages they speak and partly derived from their own rich histories. We need the crafts that the various ethnic groups produce, if, for no other reason, to beautify our homes and to make us all more real.

So, salute Saint David. Buy yourself and your family a bunch of daffodils and think of spring, Wales, independence, song and spirit.
