how come when i press the phone icon that comes with the home+++ at the very bottom of the screen my call log comes up and not the dial pad?? is there anyway i can change it?

Go to Preferences-->Power Strip Preferences-->Button Preferences--> and select "Phone Button to Dialer". That'll do the trick.
