I use yahoo mail and when I recieve an email with a "doc" file attached I can´t open it. What program do I not have on my computer that would let me open "doc" files?

what operating system are you using, .doc is usually a Word document
i have word for mac but i can still open .doc in macs textedit program

Djjd is right.
.doc files are children of the Word document program. You may also open them with Open Office Suite (includes an open source word processing and other programs all free) but you might loose some of the formatting associated with the file because the two are perfectly compatible with each other.

Another free solution is to open them with an online word processor. You can do it for free with Google Docs and if you have a gmail account they'll even give you links on your email to open the documents directly on your browser without needing any local software installed.
